WEEKLY CLUBS

Junior Jockeys

Children love ponies and to have fun - we also like to have fun, and we love ponies! Our Junior Jockeys club gives youngsters the opportunity to build a foundation of knowledge, as well as confidence on and around horses and ponies.

The club runs every Sunday morning from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and costs £25 per person. We do understand that life can get in the way, for that reason booking is not necessary, just turn up as and when!

Your Junior Jockey will learn:

Basic equine biology

Points of the horse, major bones, joints, muscles and tendons

Basic equine first aid

Minor injuries, how to treat wounds and care for a horse in recovery

Stable / yard duties

Mucking out, haynets, waters, sweeping, turning out, poo picking

General safety

What to wear and how to stay safe on and around horses

Hacking

Road safety and equipment, leading a hack

School work

Group lessons including general arena etiquette

In hand / ground work

Lunging, long reining, leading, trotting up

Teaching

Assisting the instructor during a lesson

The idea is to ensure the Jockeys are able to enjoy horses safely, with a general understanding of how horses work and what to do when things go wrong. Our staff are all very friendly and have a lot of experience working with children, so we know how to keep things light hearted and fun for everyone!

  ** NEW **

We will very soon be introducing a Badge Reward system. Much like the Scouts, Junior Jockeys will be offered the opportunity to purchase personalised Greenacres Stables Junior Jockeys clothing on which they will be able to show off all the badges they have earned in the club. We will update this page as soon as this becomes available!

ROOKIE RIDERS

Rookie Riders

The Rookie Riders is very similar to Junior Jockeys but for beginners - the club is designed for children with less experience, those new to riding or lacking in confidence. The wonderful thing about running the two clubs at different standards is that we are able to thoroughly cater for all ages and abilities in a more concentrated fashion.

The general idea of the Rookie Riders is to give children an initial confidence boost and basic ground knowledge early on, while having as much fun as possible!

The club runs every Saturday morning from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and costs £25 per person. Just like the Junior Jockeys, booking in advance is possible but not necessary. No membership required, all you will need are wellies or boots and a big smile (and perhaps a snack if you get hungry)!

Your Rookie Rider will learn:

Basic equine biology

Points of the horse, basic terminology and location (e.g. knee, hock, pastern etc)

Basic equine first aid

How to stay safe and who to tell if you find a horse that may be ill or injured

Stable / yard duties

Mucking out, haynets, waters, sweeping, turning out, poo picking

General safety

What to wear and how to stay safe on and around horses

Hacking

How to stay safe and seen when out and about, general road etiquette

School work

Group lessons including general arena etiquette

In hand / ground work

Lunging, long reining, leading, trotting up
